Why can ball valves open and close quickly?

2025-11-24

The reason why ball valves can quickly open and close is due to their unique opening and closing mechanism and structural design, as follows:

Rotate 90 degrees to complete opening and closing: The opening and closing component of the ball valve is a spherical body with a circular through-hole, which is driven by the valve stem and rotates around the axis of the ball valve. When the sphere rotates to a specific position (usually 90 degrees), the holes on it will align or offset with the channels of the valve body, thereby achieving fluid flow. This design allows the ball valve to be opened or closed by simply rotating 90 degrees, making it easy and fast to operate.

Compact structure and easy operation: The ball valve has a compact overall structure, mainly composed of valve body, ball body, valve stem, sealing ring, etc. This compact structural design makes the ball valve more flexible and quick to open and close during operation. At the same time, the sealing surface design between the opening and closing parts (ball) of the ball valve and the valve seat is reasonable, which reduces the friction during the opening and closing process and further improves the opening and closing speed.

Good sealing performance and low opening and closing torque: The sealing of ball valves is formed by the soft sealing ring fixed in the valve body tightly against the smooth valve disc, or by using a metal hard sealing structure. This sealing design enables the ball valve to achieve complete sealing when closed, preventing medium leakage. Meanwhile, due to its good sealing performance, the ball valve requires less torque during the opening and closing process, further improving the opening and closing speed.

Multiple driving modes to choose from: Ball valves can be equipped with different driving devices according to working conditions, forming ball valves with various control methods, such as electric ball valves, pneumatic ball valves, etc. These driving devices can provide greater opening and closing torque and faster opening and closing speed, enabling ball valves to quickly respond to commands in automated control systems and achieve rapid opening and closing.
