What media are ball valves suitable for?

2025-10-09

Universal media: Ball valves are suitable for conventional media such as water, solvents, acids, and natural gas. It has a compact structure, reliable sealing, low fluid resistance, rapid opening and closing (only requiring a 90 ° rotation), and the sealing surface and spherical surface are normally closed, making it an ideal choice for cutting, distribution, and flow direction adjustment in pipeline control.

Corrosive media: Stainless steel ball valves (such as 304/316 type) or ceramic ball valves can provide reliable protection against strong corrosive media such as acids and alkalis. Soft sealed ball valves achieve zero leakage through plastic sealing surfaces and are commonly used in corrosive medium pipelines at room temperature and pressure; Hard sealed ball valves, on the other hand, use metal to metal sealing to adapt to high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive working conditions.

High temperature and high pressure medium: In high temperature and high pressure scenarios, ball valves demonstrate their advantages through special design. Hard sealed ball valves use metal valve seats and spring pre tension to achieve bi-directional zero leakage, suitable for high-temperature media such as water, steam, and petroleum; The high-temperature ball valve is designed with a full metal sealing structure and elastic compensation to withstand high temperatures and pressures of 980 ℃, ensuring stable operation under extreme working conditions.

Medium containing solid particles: For media containing fibers and small solid particles, V-shaped ball valves are the preferred choice. Its V-shaped core and welded hard alloy valve seat form strong shear force, which can effectively handle viscous, corrosive, and granular media, reduce blockage and wear, and extend equipment life.

Special working condition medium: In harsh working conditions such as oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, methane, and ethylene, ball valves ensure safety through dual optimization of material and structure. Metal valve body lined valves (such as fluorine lined and plastic lined ball valves) can isolate the medium from the valve body to prevent corrosion; Ball valves with fire-resistant structures can maintain operational and sealing performance in the event of a fire, providing dual protection for the transportation of special media.
