What media environments are butterfly valves suitable for?

Butterfly valves, due to their diverse structures and flexible sealing forms, can adapt to various media environments and can be specifically divided into the following categories:


1、 Universal Media Environment

Water and aqueous solutions

Suitable for water-based media such as fresh water, sewage, seawater, saltwater, etc. For example, the centerline butterfly valve can achieve zero leakage sealing in freshwater, sewage, and seawater environments ranging from -10 ℃ to 150 ℃, and is commonly used in water treatment plants, municipal water supply, and drainage systems.

Gas medium

Suitable for gases such as air, natural gas, coal gas, steam, etc. The vacuum butterfly valve can handle pure air and non corrosive gases, with a temperature of ≤ 300 ℃ and a pressure of 0.1MPa; Pneumatic ventilation butterfly valves are used for media such as dusty gases and flue gases, and are suitable for boiler kiln flue control and environmental engineering.

Oil medium

Suitable for crude oil, refined oil, lubricating oil and other oils. Metal sealed butterfly valves (such as triple eccentric butterfly valves) can withstand high temperature and high pressure, and are commonly used in oil transportation pipelines in the petroleum and petrochemical industries.

2、 Special medium environment

corrosive medium

Acid alkali solution: Fluorine lined butterfly valves and rubber lined butterfly valves are made of corrosion-resistant materials (such as polytetrafluoroethylene and rubber), suitable for highly corrosive media such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and sodium hydroxide.

Chemical medium: Three eccentric metal hard sealed butterfly valve seat welded with heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloy, capable of handling corrosive gases and liquids such as chlorine and hydrogen chloride.

Particles and suspended solids media

The elastic sealing structure of the centerline butterfly valve can adapt to semi fluid and granular media (such as mud, pulp, dry powder), avoiding blockage or wear, and is commonly used in industries such as mining, metallurgy, and papermaking.

High temperature and high pressure medium

The three eccentric butterfly valve adopts a three-dimensional eccentric design, with a temperature resistance of over 600 ℃ and a pressure resistance of PN40 (4.0MPa), suitable for high temperature and high pressure scenarios such as thermal power generation and petrochemical cracking units.

3、 Clean and food grade media

Food grade butterfly valves are made of non-toxic, odorless, and easy to clean materials (such as stainless steel, UPVC), which comply with GMP standards and are suitable for clean pipelines in industries such as food, beverage, and pharmaceuticals to avoid medium contamination.
